Discovering L’Isle-sur-la Sorgue …

If we thought Vaison-la-Romaine would be hard to top, it was because we had not yet seen L’Isle-sur-la-Sorgue – it is simply beautiful. We cycled through the Centre-Ville on the way to our hotel, which was on the outskirts of the town, and the promise of the what we had seen made us very keen to check in and return. Our hotel, Domaine de la … Continue reading Discovering L’Isle-sur-la Sorgue …

From Vaison-la-Romaine to L’Isle-sur-la-Sorgue …

We were quite reluctant to leave Vaison-la-Romaine – we loved it – so pretty, historic, vibrant, colourful, but there was more to be seen that was equally delightful, so off we rode in the mid afternoon, heading towards L’Isle-sur-la-Sorgue – the Venice of the South of France – we had a treat in store! I should say that at the time of our trip, my husband … Continue reading From Vaison-la-Romaine to L’Isle-sur-la-Sorgue …

Venice – wringing wet….

Sadly, Venice is looking somewhat damper now than it was in June…. We were lucky enough to be there in the most wondeful weather, but now severe flooding has hit the city, and it makes for a rather miserable scene. Flooding appears to be something Venetians are used to but perhaps not to this extent. Venice and tourism

My previous post on Venice mentioned issues facing the city – tourism, environment and the economy. And not forgetting Venice…

Books about Venice abound – at the moment I am thoroughly enjoying Marlena de Blasi’s A Thousand Days in Venice, well written, light, but informative, and it has me back in Venice with every page I turn! Of course, it has the added attraction of chronicling a whirlwind romance, but it also gives some fascinating insights into the Venetian way of life. Her account of the psyche of Venetian tradesmen is enlightening! But … Continue reading And not forgetting Venice…

Meanwhile, back in Paris…..

Good old Facebook recently led me to this this vibrant blog by Vanessa – Messy Nessy Chic, where I stumbled upon her brilliant post about walking in Paris. Vanessa had the good fortune to discover the blog of editor and photographer Mlle Audrey F, Et si on se promenait…a Paris (What if we walked around Paris). The blog is en Francais, but thankfully, her interview … Continue reading Meanwhile, back in Paris…..

Vaison-la-Romaine – the Upper town

To get the to the medieval upper side of Vaison-la-Romaine, we wandered across the bridge spanning the Ouveze River, stopping half way across to take photos. This historic town which we were about to enter is enchanting, well preserved and oh so pretty. It presents photo opportunities galore, not only within the town itself,  but also down into the modern town, which I forgot to mention in my previous post, … Continue reading Vaison-la-Romaine – the Upper town
