To get the to the medieval upper side of Vaison-la-Romaine, we wandered across the bridge spanning the Ouveze River, stopping half way across to take photos. This historic town which we were about to enter is enchanting, well preserved and oh so pretty. It presents photo opportunities galore, not only within the town itself, but also down into the modern town, which I forgot to mention in my previous post, is built on the site of the Roman city, and offers wonderful ruins to explore.
In the upper town, we were captivated by the beautiful stone buildings, the medieval church and the bell tower, the summit ruins, the shady lanes, and the magnificent panoramic views of the surrounding countryside. Take a look for yourself, and if you get the chance to visit this magnificent historic town, don’t pass it up…..
