Today is the end of our big adventure …. we have had a wonderful time with great friends and created enduring memories to share and treasure forever… now is the time when what we have seen and done starts to sink in, and I will be posting reflections as they come to me, along with more photos… here Frances and I are relaxing at a place we loved so much – Radicondoli- on the rooftop terrace at La Pergola on our first night… this will keep me going until I get home and start recording some of my impressions more fully…. Ciao for now.
We had a great birthday blast for Phil at La Pergola in Radicondoli last night, complete with cake and candles organised by Roger and Frances. (http://www.lapergoladiradicondoli.it). It has the best terrace in the world to celebrate a birthday that’s for sure and the staff are so welcoming, especially Ghigo and his lovely sister. We watched the sun set over the distant hills, drinking prosecco (whisky for Phil), and savouring the delicious food – roast suckling pig for the boys, stuffed zucchini for Frances and me, with mixed roast veges and spinacci gratin. Dessert was panna cotta, profiteroles, fruit tart…. followed by the most delicous cake…. get the picture?
Was a great evening for us all and one Phil will surely remember.
Today we woke to a beautiful morning, but with no hot water. Alessandro our caretaker is so helpful and obliging and he was at the gate seeking to help in about two minutes flat – looks like we may have to wait until tomorrow, but he has given us the key the caretaker’s flat (his) having got his wife(?) to come and clean the shower first.
We took off early and went to Casole d’Elsa this morning – another local hilltop town, quite different from Radicondoli, but charming and pretty as they all are. Phil and I climbed to the top of the tower for an amazing view over the countryside and now were are back at Radicondoli at La Pergola eating Ribollata, Tuscan Vege soup and having coffee – next stop? our pool. Ciao!
